Iraq Scouting officially returns to the World Organization of Scout Movement (WOSM) after the announcement of its membership status as full member of WOSM declared in the 41st World Scout Conference 2017 in Baku Congress Center on Thursday, 17th August 2017 morning.
The Chairperson of the World Scout Committee, João Armando Gonçalves, and the Secretary General of WOSM, Ahmed Alhendawi, handed over the WOSM membership certificate and flag to the representative of the Iraq Scouts.
Iraq was one of the first Arab nations to embrace the Scouting movement, launching its program in 1921. Iraq was a member of the WOSM from 1922 to 1940, and again from 1956 to 1999. After several years build up again the Scouting movement in that country, now Iraq is again one of the full member of the WOSM.
